During my career I have worked as a teacher advisor for Education Leeds in the school improvement service which involved the research and design of courses and training of staff across school in the south and west of Leeds. This role centred around teaching and learning improvements as well as and ICT advisory role to support curriculum development. Working closely with schools on school improvement planning, as well as one to one departmental and staff support, was an essential part of this position in improving attainment at all levels, as well as preparing schools for inevitable Ofsted visits. I went on to work as a Director of Achievement at a new academy in Bradford supporting the transformation of results there and achieving an Ofsted rating of ‘good’ in just three years. Since joining Abbey Grange C of E Academy in 2011 I have worked as Curriculum Area Leader for English, improving 3 levels of progress from 63% to 78% in three years. During this period I joined the senior leadership team with a responsibility for Teaching and Learning, CPD and Performance Development. Through a redesign of monitoring and evaluation procedures, changing the classroom expectations to centre around our own language of learning, as well as the inception of a bespoke and personalised self-operating CPD package for staff, Abbey Grange has shifted from routinely good with some pockets of outstanding teaching and learning, to an academy with a profile of predominately outstanding learning and teaching where lessons reflect our five core learning elements: consistency, engagement, independence, challenge and reflection. Alongside my work in school I have been proactive in my own learning achieving my Masters qualification from Leeds Beckett in Leadership and Management in Education in 2014 with full support from the Academy.
